Bar Soap vs. Botanika Liquid Soap: Which Fits Your Routine?

3 min read

Do you like a chunky bar in the shower, or a liquid soap beside the sink? We offer both, and the biggest difference is how you use them. Our bar soaps are ready to lather. Botanika is concentrated liquid Castile soap that you can dilute for uses like foaming hand-soap refills.

Peruvian Gold Wellness Inca Sol Bar Soap

The same care goes into choosing what belongs

Peruvian Gold is rooted in traditional plant knowledge, and we bring that same thoughtful approach to everyday soap. We choose plant oils and botanicals with a purpose, use essential oils instead of fragrance oils, and leave out artificial dyes. Our bars and Botanika bottles give you two ways to bring that approach into your home.

A bar that’s ready when you are

Wet the bar, work up a lather in your hands or with a washcloth, and wash. Our chunky bars are hand-cut to approximately 4.5 ounces and made with olive, coconut, and sustainably sourced palm oils, plus shea butter. They’re an easy choice if you enjoy a bar in your shower. Between washes, give yours a place to drain and dry.

Botanika for hand-soap refills and more

Castile soap is a traditional soap made from plant oils. Our Botanika liquid soap uses organic sunflower, coconut, olive, and castor oils, with aloe. It comes in a 16-ounce bottle of concentrate. If you’re making foaming hand soap, you mix a portion with water—you don’t need a dispenser full of concentrate. Dilution lets you turn one bottle into multiple refills, which is worth keeping in mind when comparing the bottle price with ready-to-use soap.

Let our dilution guide do the measuring

Different uses need different dilutions. Our free Castile Soap Recipe Guide walks you through foaming hand soap and other everyday recipes, so you don’t have to guess. Start with the recipe for what you want to make and follow the bottle’s directions.

Love a blend? Try it in both

Lavanda Flor brings lavender to both our bars and liquids; Inca Sol brings lemongrass. Monte Verde pairs eucalyptus and spearmint, while Tierra Menta pairs rosemary and peppermint with menthol. The same family doesn’t mean exactly the same recipe. Our bars can include herbs, clays, and powders that we don’t use in the liquids. For example, Luz Cobriza liquid soap has orange and patchouli, while our bar adds cedarwood and black walnut powder.

Looking for a goat-milk bar?

Choose Dulce Avena. It combines goat milk and oatmeal with our plant-oil and shea base, without an added essential-oil blend. It’s the bar to explore when you want an unscented wash and enjoy goat-milk soap.

Looking for an unscented liquid soap?

Sensitive Botanika keeps the liquid option simple, without added essential oils or fragrance. It has our organic plant-oil base and aloe, with no goat milk. If you prefer a liquid wash and want to leave scent out, this is where we’d start.

There’s room for both

A bar in the shower and diluted Botanika in a foaming dispenser by the sink is an easy combination. Choose one, or enjoy both. You can stay with a favorite essential-oil blend or try something different in each room.
